Rights of Servicemembers and their Dependents to Terminate Premises and Motor Vehicle Leases Under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act

This tool summarizes, P. Law 116-158, S. 3637, the amendment to Section 3955 of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. The following are the key takeaways of the changes:
- Servicemembers or their dependents must present each of the following orders to terminate a lease under the provisions of the Act: (1) original military orders; and (2) subsequent stop movement orders issued by the Secretary of Defense of the United States.
- Qualifying leases under the Act may now be terminated without requiring servicemembers to change a duty of station.
