Summary of Final Rule: FDIC Establishment and Relocation of Branches and Offices

Updated 02/13/2026

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has issued a final rule to amend the process for covered banks regarding the establishment and relocation of branches and offices. The final rule is meant to improve speed and reduce regulatory burdens associated with the filing process under 12 CFR part 303 of the FDIC rules regarding the establishment of a branch or relocation of a main office or branch. The main changes are to shorten the approval timeline for institutions that qualify for expedited applications, reduce the information required to be submitted with the request, remove the requirement for public notification by newspaper publication, and provide de minimis exemption.
