Summary of Integrating Financial Technology Innovation into Regulatory Frameworks

Updated 06/01/2026

On May 19, 2026, the White House issued an Executive Order titled Integrating Financial Technology Innovation into Regulatory Frameworks. The order sets a federal policy objective to reduce unnecessary regulatory barriers, streamline regulatory processes, and encourage collaboration between financial technology firms, federally regulated financial institutions, and federal financial regulators. The order does not amend existing banking regulations, but it initiates a federal regulator review of how current rules, guidance, supervisory practices, and application processes may affect financial technology innovation and competition.
