Summary of the Uniform Financial Institutions Rating System Notice and Request for Comment

On May 19, 2026, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (“FFIEC”) issued the Notice and Request for Comment (“Notice”) on the Uniform Financial Institution Rating System (“UFIRS”). The Notice is the first step in a major overhaul of the CAMELS Rating System implemented by the FFIEC. The intent of the Notice is to modernize the rating system to be less subjective and more objective as it relates to the Management factor, the numeric rating system, and the financial elements of CAMELS. Comments are due August 17, 2026.
