KANSAS CITY, Kan. – U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Great Plains Regional Administrator Joe Mitchell hosted a two-day roundtable with affordable housing developers and finance leaders from the Kansas City metro area to hear firsthand about the state of the housing market in the region. Sessions were designed to provide a forum for nonprofit and for-profit developers, commercial lenders, and state and local partners to discuss best practices for encouraging market-driven innovations and reducing regulatory barriers that stifle housing production and limit access to affordable homes.

“I have spent my career focused on developing workforce housing and know how complex and costly it can be to navigate the regulatory process,” said HUD Regional Administrator Joe Mitchell. “Under HUD Secretary Scott Turner’s leadership, I am committed to hearing directly from those who are on the front lines of homebuilding and ensuring we carry out our promise to streamline HUD programs so builders and developers can do what they do best – build the American Dream.”

These listening sessions follow HUD’s June announcement of the elimination of several burdensome policies at the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) – cutting red-tape and helping reduce the cost of homeownership. That announcement was made as part of HUD’s recognition of National Homeownership Month.

Mitchell will continue his regional listening session tour in Omaha, Nebraska on Thursday, August 14.
