This document summarizes CFPB’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking with request for comments relating to Regulation F, which covers the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. This proposal seeks to amend Regulation F to address Federal rules governing the activities of “debt collectors,” who collect debt related to a consumer financial product or service. The proposal includes rules for communications, disclosures, and procedures to be followed for those who are debt collectors. The proposal also seeks to impose additional disclosure and record retention requirements.
