Summary of Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security Executive Order 14409

On June 2, 2026, the President issued Executive Order 14409, Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security. The Executive Order directs federal agencies to strengthen federal cybersecurity, expand programs and services that enhance AI-enabled defensive tools, coordinate software-vulnerability remediation, and establish framework for voluntary participation in the secure deployment of certain advanced AI models. It also directs the Department of Justice to prioritize enforcement against persons who use AI to unlawfully access or damage computer systems. Banks should also consider the Federal Trade Commission’s proposed Policy Statement Concerning the Suppression of Accuracy in Artificial Intelligence Systems, which addresses potentially deceptive representations or omissions concerning an AI system’s objectives and accuracy.
